 DOCUMENTARY WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY

Telling the story of your wedding day

My style of wedding photography is known as documentary, photojournalism or reportage which means rather than direct and choreograph your day, I will be there to quietly observe and capture the atmosphere, the spontaneous moments, the friendships, the little details and of course the love and romance!  The resulting images are stylish, modern and most importantly natural.

The day...

Many couples are now recognising that in addition to achieving a set of beautiful images that capture genuine moments and emotion, a relaxed documentary style of wedding photography can ensure that your experience of the day is a really positive one.  Rather than endless military style group shots and lots of bossing about, a documentary or reportage approach means you get to spend as much  time as possible with your friends and family and not feel under pressure to "perform".   Apart from key moments which by the very nature of a wedding day require a little bit of direction most of the day you won't be aware of me and my camera.  In my eyes one of the biggest compliments I receive from my clients and their guests is  how unobtrusive my approach has been.

Although the focus of the day will always remain on documentary coverage, I do appreciate that some relaxed group shots of your close family and friends are an important way to document your wedding day and so am more than happy to accommodate this.  From experience, I advise that group shots are kept to 6- 8 to avoid any disruption to the flow of the day.  I also recommend a list of informal portraits of key people that can be captured throughout the coverage of the day.  This is perfect for informal groups of friends that don't need to be included in a formal group section.

Many of my clients also enjoy taking a little bit of time out away from their guests after the ceremony for fifteen minutes or so to capture some more intimate portraits which take in the romance of the moment.  These images are very peaceful and relaxed, with minimal direction from myself.  A simple but beautiful image of you both walking hand in hand can say so much about how you're both feeling.  I promise there will be no cheesy poses draping you around bridges and trees!  You can then return as quickly as possible to the celebrations without you or your guests feeling that you've disappeared for an hour long fashion shoot!

I will also ensure that those wedding planning decisions you made along the way won’t go unnoticed with gorgeous images of all of those tiny but crucial details such as shoes and flowers through to table settings and favours.

Another really popular part of the day is photography coverage of those girly getting ready moments.  This is a definite benefit of choosing a female photographer who can be part of all the action without any awkwardness - I've often been known to become  an honoury bridesmaid on the day helping out with those last minute dress fastenings and button holes.  There is also of course that amazing girl's intuition for all of the little but beautiful details in life -  it's also about taking a very sensitive approach and predicting those key moments just before they happen.  Weddings are absolutely full to the brim with moments and emotion and so for me it's photography heaven with amazing images to be had around every corner.
