OLIVIA BRABBS PHOTOGRAPHY GREEN POLICY
It's a Nice Day for a Green Wedding
Green is the new white when it comes to weddings, with more couples caring about the Earth as well as their guests when they plan their big day. And it's no wonder when Climate Care states a 150-guest event plus honeymoon flights releases a shocking 14.5 tonnes of CO2 - four tonnes more than one British citizen uses in a year!
I'm passionate about the environment, and am excited that the wedding industry is finally getting eco-savvy. Thankfully, being green doesn't mean the groom has to sprout a hairy beard and the guests have to munch on lentils. (although I personally love a beard and lentils!) Instead, couples can plan an earth-friendly day whilst retaining their own sense of style, sticking to their budget and choosing from a wide variety of options such as an organic dress, recycled paper invitations, homemade cake and organic food from local suppliers.
I believe that wedding photographers can do their bit too. My digital images and online proofing service cut down on paper and photographic chemicals, and whilst many photographers source their albums from overseas - clocking up polluting air miles - I offer beautiful fine art albums that are handcrafted in Yorkshire. There are options for leather free covers as well as tree free paper. The eco credentials of my album company is amazing with attention to detail at all levels from packaging to waste management. My office is run on 100% renewable energy sources, and I opt for recycled stationery and products wherever possible.
If going green appeals to you, Yorkshire has some fantastic local suppliers who are prepared to go that extra mile (on bike of course!) to help you plan your perfect wedding. We have amazing venues on our doorstep including a woodland wedding with Jolly Days near York or The North Star Club near Beverley. Or you could go festival style with teepees from Papa Kata or yurts from Yorkshire Yurts. Other ideas to compliment your day could include seasonal floristry from Twisted Willow Floristry or Firenza Floral Design or a vintage bus for your guests from The Yorkshire Heritage Bus Company. So many chefs are showing real passion for local and seasonal produce such as The Black Swan in Helmsley so it's always worth chatting to your venue about how your can bring a local edge to your menu choices. Do have a look through my 'Friends' page as there are lots of great suppliers listed there who can help you plan the day of your dreams with a clean conscience!
